Accidentally Wes Anderson Brighton Wedding: From the Archives

When going through my 10 Photos in 10 Years blog recently, a particular highlight from 2015 was Trav + Flic’s really fun Brighton wedding. They went to town on some really awesome details. They had Choccywoccydoodah Wes Anderson-inspired wedding cakes (yes, plural) and each table had a suitcase with film-themed fancy dress. Everyone sang at them during the speeches while dressed in a mix of Darjeeling ltd, Fantastic Mr Fox or Budapest hotel attire which was a sight to behold.

Wes Anderson Brighton Wedding

The cinematic theme to their day continued with their ceremony venue: The Duke of York Picturehouse, where they had their first date, and Trav happened to propose, before moving to another spot that meant a lot to them. The Ancient Mariner pub was managed by a friend who loves food, meaning they knew his chef would feed them well. Accidentally tying in with the nautical-themed pub, the bridesmaid’s dresses were different styles, but all the same fabric, which had a touch of the sea about it! Flic asked them each to choose a style that they felt comfortable in from Get Cutie, so they were tailored to each bridesmaid’s taste.

Unique Wedding Reception Idea

Vintage blues, silver, gold and peach set the colour palette, in keeping with a moon aesthetic and the movies, and the couple’s table décor centred around their favourite film director Wes Anderson. Tables were themed around his movies, with interactive elements that the couple found guests swapping and bargaining for through the night! A cover of Oasis’ Wonderwall with lyrics changed to focus on the couple was a complete surprise and the ‘Wes-tails’ cocktails added a unique touch.

Kind Words

Wanting wedding photos that told a story, Flic and Trav told me, “We loved the soft colours, interesting angles and attention to detail in your photos.” They didn’t want anything to feel staged, with a natural and relaxed feel so that everyone felt comfortable. Flic said, “From start to finish you were patient, professional but more importantly kind, fun and instantly like one of our friends we’d had for a long time.” I actually went on to photograph a few of their friends weddings too, so it was one of those instances where it definitely did feel like we became friends.
