Alternative Wedding at Asylum Chapel
Flo and Tom love all things colourful, quirky and a touch of the dramatic, so they always knew they would be looking for alternative options for their wedding day. With its’ gothic-style architecture and dramatic interiors, they chose Asylum Chapel in East London for their January wedding. As one of my favourite alternative East-London wedding venues, I was delighted to be tasked with providing relaxed and fun photography for their day.
Alternative Bridal Style
There is nothing to say that choosing an alternative wedding doesn’t mean you can’t make some classic choices. If you’re going to have an alternative wedding, it means that you’re making the choices because you want to, not because it’s expected of you! Flo chose a beautifully classic Halfpenny London gown for her wedding day look. “I chose the Charlotte dress by Halfpenny London because it’s timeless. I would have loved it twenty years ago and I think I’ll love it in twenty years’ time. And most importantly of all, I knew I could eat, drink and be merry without feeling like I had to stand up tall and breathe in – the corset did all that for me.” She then made her look her own with a unique ruffled, feather-like trim veil and a star crown from Crown and Glory.
The Best Alternative East-London Wedding Venue
Over the last decade, I have photographed countless weddings at Asylum Chapel and can confidently say it is one of the best alternative East–London wedding venues. Its unique atmosphere and beautifully restored interior, complete with high ceilings and stained glass windows, make it a perfect backdrop for photos. Couples can also take advantage of its central location to capture some of the city’s most iconic locations in their photos. Furthermore, Asylum Chapel offers couples an array of additional facilities such as a bar, sound system and even a cinema room, enabling them to create a truly unique and memorable experience for their guests.
Alternative Wedding Photographer East-London
The perfect thing about Asylum Chapel, and Flo and Tom’s reception venue, Brunswick House, is that both venues already have very unique and dramatic decor, so you’re able to relax and know that you don’t have to pull much in terms of styling. My top tip for a relaxed wedding day is always to have as fewer moving parts as possible! This gives fewer chances for things to go wrong and cause you additional stress. Who wants to be worrying about flower walls or intricate table styling when you could be relaxing and having a wonderful time with your favourite people?
What is an Alternative Wedding?
To me, that’s the true sign of an alternative wedding – not one that’s focused on being the most unique or quirky, but that doesn’t conform to the trappings the traditional wedding industry can instil. An alternative wedding is one that focuses on what you both want as a couple, how you want to feel on your day, and not doing something just because it’s expected of you! This relaxed, fuss-free approach to a wedding is one of my favourites to photograph – people having a good time will always look happy in their photos!
I would love to shoot some more at Asylum Chapel this year or next, so if you’re considering it for your alternative East London wedding please get in touch – I would love to hear from you.
