Relaxed Woodland Wedding

“Dale is so talented and captures the most beautiful natural shots, which never feel forced. His calm nature makes you feel at ease; you wouldn’t even know he’s there most of the time! Very professional, friendly and a pleasure to work with. Thank you so much Dale, we’re so glad we picked you!” – Amy and Luke

Hands up if you’re looking for inspiration for a relaxed woodland wedding in Kent? Amy and Luke’s relaxed, Japanese-inspired wedding at The Dreys in Kent was a magical day and one of my favourite ones to photograph this year! As an alternative wedding photographer, I always like it when a couple do things their own way, and Amy and Luke did not disappoint.

Relaxed, Woodland Wedding Theme

Inspired by their engagement, which happened when Luke popped the question while on holiday in Tokyo, Amy and Luke themed their table names after cities in Japan and including waving lucky cats to their table decorations. They also included gold-sprayed pineapples (don’t ask them why, they don’t know!) for a relaxed theme that added touches of their quirky personalities to the magical, woodland setting perfectly.

An Alternative, Indie First Dance

As karaoke aficionados, music played an important part in their day. Amy even plucked up the courage to sing one of Luke’s favourite songs, Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis at the start of their reception! The bride’s entrance was to Haley Reinhart’s version of the same song and their first dance was to Toothpaste Kisses by The Maccabees.

No relaxed, woodland wedding would be complete without a carefree wedding breakfast; for Amy and Luke, it consisted of epic pie and mash from The Humble Pie Catering Co, followed by the perfect mix of songs and a full dancefloor courtesy of the ultimate time-travellers cover-band Flux Capacitor.

Love is a Temporary Madness

Their ceremony, held under the covered deck, was the most important part of the day for Amy and Luke, which included a modern classic wedding reading from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin by Louis de Bernières. Coming in a close second was their emotional, sentimental speeches and partying with all their friends and family.
